Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a problem I just started having with my Minnkota Terrova Electric Trolling Motor 80 lbs. Thrust.

Recently when running the motor on Auto Pilot the motor started shaking quickly to the left and the right but would stop once I turned off the motor.
But what happened next was even worst. The motor would not turn to the left at all, and then would just start spinning clockwise and would not stop spinning even with the motor turned off. I actually had to unplug the motor to get it to stop.
It was a rather ghostly experience fishing on a Halloween night.

I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues and how to fix the motor. The motor is about 20 years old. My friend googled the problem and he thinks it's the control panel but I watched the video and that looks hard to replace to me
and not even sure if that is the problem.
I would greatly appreciate any tips and advice.

Also on a side note. I really am going to miss this site. I look at it every single day and have gained so much knowledge from it.

Thank you all
Dave

Wow 20 years, that's a great run. Advice (?) give it a decent burial. Side note as to this site, me too.

Are you sure it's not a battery problem? Those motors are very finicky when power supply isn't whats required. Might be time for new batteries.

I had the same issue with my Minn kota turning left then right and spinning. Looking for answers I found somewhere....someone said it can be cause by metal object too close to the head. remove my navigation lights (1 foot pole) from the front and put in and tested on local pond. Ran it with auto pilot for 20 minute no more issue. Have to wait for a full day troll to confirm there are no more issues. Also someone said it could be voltage regulator (breaker?) on trolling batterie. I cleaned all connections.
