Hey fellow anglers,

Headed to the Detroit River Friday for the first time. Looking for any information on where to launch and jig size. Thinking about using jig /night crawlers and possibly jig /minnow presentations. Also, I have heard of lots of snags, so is trolling also an option? Any info would be much appreciated to get us started.

Thanks

I think I may also head that way Friday. We use 3/4-1oz jigs and wyandotte worms. Some guys use fin s minnows. Singer hooks help. You can get them at the local bait shop. Tip with an emerald shiner if you like. Bounce the bottom and make sure to stay vertical to avoid snags. There are a lot in there but if you stay vertical and pay attention to your cadence you will not loose many. You could troll some of the flats or out on the lake. Too much current in the main river to troll unless you are set up to hand line. We got a 29in spawned out female trolling the mouth at night 2 weeks ago. We launch at Elizabeth park or metro. They can get crowded, earlier the better. We showed up a little late on Saturday and it was one in one out. Had to wait for about 4 boats to pull out before they would let us launch. Only waited about 15 minutes though. Good luck.

I have a buddy who’s a Detroit native and he said that he has always used big black on black jigs and mister twisters fishing right in front of Hart Plaza. I’m not sure on the size. 1 oz. im guessing.
