This spot is close enough to where I work that I can actually fish it for a good 30 mins during lunch, only problem is I haven't even felt a nibble yet. Been out the last two days throwing green pumpkin colored soft plastic worms and craws on weighted gamakatsu 4/0 hooks. I have to assume that besides carp and cats there are some bass in the area. The water is really murky but still think I should be able to lock onto something up here. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've never fished near that Dam, but I know there are some northerns in the area. I always see guys soaking lines off the bottom over there. Have you ever tried Lake Shermerville on the other side of the tollway?

Yes I have tried Shermerville but with no success. Although I once saw catfish there (floating upside down). None of the shore fishing locations seemed any good, there was not a lot of structure to fish and it seemed really shallow. May have to try going out in my canoe to really give it a fair shot. The pike in DPR sound intriguing, looks like I'll have to risk a few lures to go after them. So far I've just been throwing Texas rigged plastics to avoid getting snagged on all the sunken logs, car batteries, and shopping carts that unfortunately wind up in the Des Plaines river in these parts.

the northern in the dpr will hit a bright colored toothbrush with a hook on it. Jk but seriously they are in there. I live in Elmwood park and the further north on the dpr you go the bigger the northern get. SPinnerbaits and spoons near laydowns and slack areas will produce. youll be suprised with what u find

I've killed pike on the dpr with mepps bucktails no 4 and 5 on many occasions. Caught a handful of 30's in the fall. On a good day you will have them hitting before you even start your retrieve.

Spent about an hour north of Dam #1 with a blue spinner (blue fox), nothing happening. Fished every fallen tree I could find. Next time I'll try south of the dam.

Update! Tried Dam #1 again today after letting the flood waters recede. Picked up a bass on the high side of the dam, took me by surprise. I was running a chartreuse skirted spinner bait parallel to the dam. The fish then jumped down the dam into a deep pool. Thought for sure I would lose it after previously fraying my line and not re-tying (like an idiot) but managed to hall it in. The current made the bass feel a lot bigger than it actually was.

Nice work man. Hows the water clarity around the dam area?

Clarity was really good right next to the dam on the high side. Everywhere else seemed pretty average for the Des Plaines river. By the way, if you're up that way, lake potawatomi has been producing for me, both crappie and bass.

I have done well on Northern a bit south at Euclid st. I catch a few suckers at dam #2 in the rip rap and float them under Euclid st. Also lots of luck walking south from Euclid and hitting log jams with a Mepps 4.
