Beautiful afternoon so I grabbed the 3wt fly rod and waded the west branch, 3:30-6:15.
I started by wading into a hole that held what must have been a school of rack bass on the feed. Using a black popper then a legged wooly bugger, I caught at least 2 dozen of the fish in the 1-1/2 hours. Got tired of them so I moved upstream and caught two nice smallmouth; one of which had a big belly and he wasn't done eating when he grabbed my popper. With the failing light and dropping temperature, the bite slowed so it was time to get off the river. A really nice way to end the day. I would bet the fish will be biting today but other chores, like fertilizing the grass, need to be done. Oh well.

Wow! That's what I'm talkin about, Chuck! Nothing like being in the right place at the right time...and with weather like this to boot!. Well played my friend.

Good to see you enjoying a fall bite chuck. This is my favorite time of year to fish and so many people hang it up before the good fall bite starts.
