I took a ride to 87th. st. Sunday morning. I went to see if the perch were in yet. There were two guys fishing on the wall. They had no fish. All of a sudden shots rang out. No not bad guys. A couple of guys in a boat with a huge spread of decoys were hunting. They were just off shore. I was talking with a Chicago policeman and he showed me where they were. He didn't do anything to stop them. At that location they were clearly in Illinois. Technically the Indiana line was about 1000 ft. out. Can some shed some light on this ? Was this legal ? I'm just curious. I have no intention of trying it.

YES COMPLETLY LEGAL AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW ALL THE REGULATIONS OF COURSE
I AM NOT A HUNTER BUT I DO SELL A COUPLE HEWES CRAFT OPEN FISHEMAN EACH YEAR JUST FOR THE GUYS HUNTING OFF SHORE LAKE MICHIGAN
PROBABLY BESIDES COMERCIAL SPILL RESPONSE THE ONLY REASON A STOCK ONE OF THESE BOATS
THESE BOATS ARE DEEP WIDE AND SAFE IN OPEN WATER DONT TRY IT WITH THE USUSAL JOHN BOAT MOST DUCK HUNTERS USE
THE HUNTERS TELL ME THIS IS TOUGH TO BEAT TAKES LONGER TO PUT THE DECOYS OUT AND TAKE THEM IN THAN BAG THEIR LIMITS
DUCKS FLYING SOUTH AVOID THE CITY AND FLY RITE DOWN THE LAKE FRONT

Interesting. I heard up on the North Shore guys are doing this but that isn't Cook County. I wonder what the rules are on the water and where Cook ends before Indiana starts.

Anyone hunting on the breakwall is in Indiana water.. If they are in Illinois CPD would be all over them. Zoom in on the breakwater and you'll see the Ill/In border.

Bulldawg : I did that. They were 6 ft. off shore just south of the opening. Where the road makes a circle. You could walk up to them. It was neat to see them there.

I didn't think I was blowing the whistle. Sorry if I did. It would take some very special arrangements and set ups.I don't think anyone is going to race right down there. Sorry Honda

ltf i don't think you blew the whistle on anyone. I think frank and his boys have a lot of lake they hunt. And from what ive seen over the years living on the south side, takes a brave sole and a good boat to hunt the south end this time of year. I know some guys are going to get ideas to run out there but you better have your sh** together before you try. And like frank said follow the rules. Nice birds frank!

no worries guy its a big lake out there just follow the rules its not like fishing and you are not supposed to set up on top of another hunter you need to keep a safe distance and then some
but be safe ! you are not going to take your favorite john boat out there safely !

a good lake Michigan boat should have some depth a little aggressive dead rise not a flat bottom john boat
don't use the dog with out a life preserver and even then best be a young hard swimmer too many bad things can happen to fast with currents and waves ect. to a dog
its all about the fun and the funs over if some one gets hurt
A boat some thing like this would be ideal

just a reminder guys we don't just sell NEW salmon boats and gear
we often have some nice used boats I have a big rack of good used out board just for duck hunters from 6 too 40 hp
our goal is to grow the sport and keep it affordable for the guys that really love the outdoors and especially the new guys just getting started you don't have to learn the hard way the turkey and fish are always going to be cheaper at the supermarket
its all about the fun you don't have to have deep pocket to enjoy our natural resources' but it helps
we do our best to work with all budgets

They're in Illinois (Chicago) and will get nailed eventually. You better stay in Indiana if you play this game.

I can only speak for my self I don't know who was doing what but if a sportsman decides to exercise his or her rights to fish or hunt the cal. park or any other border area
This is a useful and up to date document useful for fishing or hunting any of these areas and knowing exactly what state you are in
definitions rules and regs should be reviewed annually as they will often change
I would highly recommend in every case when hunting or fishing any where near any state lines to be in possession of both states licenses including appropriate stamps and a good gps unit
be safe and enjoy our great out doors
feel free to stop by any time with your questions we have a nice display of gps units in stock to eliminate any confusion for any one interested in accurate information we be glad to give you a demonstration of how they work

this is the document we use if there is any other more accurate or more applicable please share it
