I got a call from Jeff (Bearsfan) Saturday morning and he asked what I was doing on Sunday morning. I told him that I was still working on the paper work for the tax man. He said that I should join Angelo (Goose Hunter) and him for a little Crappie fishing down at the Coal City strip pit. :darn Paper work or Crappie fishing :humm , it was a no brainier. We caught a lot of fish today. I had a catfish about 1 1/2 to 2 lb. release itself right at my feet, I also released a 14 in Bass and a few other small fish. The Perch were kept because they were nice and fat. We had a great time and I hope to do it again soon.

10 crappie. 8 were 10". The two biggest were 11.5" and 12".

Had a great time. Dad, thanks for cleaning the fish. We'll be over to eat 'em soon.

There are a few CECO guys on this site. I belong to the Coal City Area Club and the Area #1 Outdoor Club. We were at Area #1 today.

Always a good time Angelo. I feel the same way. I just feel bad we never got the chance to ice fish together this season.

Minnows. Sorry we missed the tackle sale John. How did it go?

Hey Louis, don't take this the wrong way. I'm sure you understand. I met Angelo on Chitown-Angler a couple years ago. It didn't take too long for us to get comfortable fishin' together, once we were able to determine that neither one was an internet nut job! :rotflmao The Chitown outings are a great opportunity to meet folks and expand your fishing opportunities. With all that said, I have been known to eat lunch. :D

Mike,

I never measured the water temp. We fished from shore.

I really like the Rapala 10' rod for crappie from shore. It's a 2 piece ultra light rod with a Tennessee handle, perfect for crappie fishing, for only $15 at Gander Mountain. I bought two and love 'em. They have a nice soft tip, but good back bone when you need to lift the fish (something my 10' noodle rod lacks). Well, I now have one that's 10' and one that's 9'-9". I put it in the vehicle without breaking it down and caught the tip on the dashboard vent. That was dumb. Just glad it wasn't a $60 crappie rod, right? I think these rods would be great for Navy Pier perch fishing as well.

Glad to see you made it to the site Jason.

Thanks for the PM Louis.
