have always wanted to try the shore in indiana
i was looking at the map above of the discharges, but are all of those only accessible by boat, or can you access any from shore?
i saw a youtube video of a guy fly fishing for carp at one of the discharges, standing on the rocks, but cant tell where that may be.
any advice would be great,

thanks
jeff

Those Im pretty sure are all only accessible by boat. Maybe the video you saw was someone who worked there.

If you post a link of the video, I’ll tell you where it’s is, or was. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint, the Indiana Discharge fishing is mostly a thing of the psat. The power plants at State Line, Dean Mitchell, Bailey Generating, and Nipsco Michigan City have all either been completely razed or refitted and no longer pump. Those were all accessible from shore. There is still water pumped at BP in whiting, but it’s been redesigned. It does still draw fish, but it’s very shallow. The discharges in Indiana Harbor, Us Steel at Gary, are still accessible by boat and produce good fishing. The discharge in Burns Harbor is off limits to the general public. You can still find good spring coho action from shore all along the Indiana shoreline though.

Try the mouth of Burns Ditch. Or Trail Creek in MC. Both have been good lately. ESP the Ditch.

I am actually free this weekend and would love to take a ride and try fishing from the shore of southern Lake Michigan. Where is the Burns ditch? Are you referring to the east arm little calumet river by US Steel? I obviously am getting that fro google maps, because I have never fished this area. Thanks for any and all info.

Set your GPS to
Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk
1000 Riverwalk Dr
Portage
Indiana 46368

That’s the mouth of the Ditch.

You can also enter the Port of Indiana (show the guard your ID and let them know you're there to fish). They have a public fishing area at the very north end of the property towards the lake - this will get you as close to the ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor discharge as publicly possible from shore.
